SOC analyst monitoring cybersecurity threats on multiple screens

The cybersecurity skills gap is real. South African companies need qualified penetration testers, SOC analysts, and cloud security engineers—and they're willing to pay. But self-directed learning has a 70% dropout rate. This guide shows you the three specialist career paths, real salary data, and what makes structured training different from YouTube.

Three specialist tracks—choose your career path

⚔️ Pen Tester Track (R28,000)

260 hours • ~3 months full-time / 6 months part-time

Learn to think like an attacker—legally. Master reconnaissance, exploitation, post-exploitation, and professional reporting. You'll graduate with CEH v13 exam readiness and a portfolio of real penetration tests that employers actually ask to see.

🛡️ SOC Analyst Track (R28,000)

260 hours • ~3 months full-time / 6 months part-time

South Africa's most in-demand cybersecurity role. The SOC Analyst Track trains you to monitor, detect, investigate, and respond to real cyber threats using the same tools and workflows as professional security operations centres.

☁️ GRC & Cloud Track (R26,500)

260 hours • ~3 months full-time / 6 months part-time

Cloud security is where growth is happening. Master AWS and Azure security architecture, POPIA compliance (critical for South African organisations), NIST governance frameworks, and cloud audit methodology.

Why specialise? Each track leads to a specific job title with real salary data. You're not a generic "cybersecurity person"—you're a junior penetration tester earning R400K–R600K, a SOC analyst earning R400K–R700K, or a cloud security engineer earning R400K–R650K. That specificity matters to employers.

No IT experience? Start from absolute zero.

Most bootcamps claim beginners can join, then rush through fundamentals assuming you know TCP/IP by week two. We don't do that.

How Module 1 works (your foundation)

"I had zero IT background and was intimidated by the whole thing. But Module 1 broke everything into digestible pieces. By the end of month one, I was capturing packets and using Kali Linux—and it made sense."
— Graduate, Pen Tester Track

Already in IT? If you're a helpdesk technician, sysadmin, or network engineer, you can test out of Module 1 via a quick placement assessment and jump straight to Module 2.

Real salary data—what you'll earn in South Africa

Cybersecurity is one of the highest-paying IT career paths. Here's what graduates earn at different career levels:

Why the salary jump?

Want it all? Complete the full bootcamp (all 6 modules)

Instead of choosing one track, complete all six modules within a 24-month window and earn the full Code College Cybersecurity Bootcamp Certificate. You get red team AND blue team skills, maximum job flexibility, and five industry certifications.

The six modules:

  1. Module 1: IT & Networking Foundations (80 hours)
  2. Module 2: Core Security Fundamentals (80 hours)
  3. Module 3: Ethical Hacking & Pen Testing (100 hours)
  4. Module 4: Blue Team & SOC Operations (100 hours)
  5. Module 5: Specialisation & Cloud Security (80 hours)
  6. Module 6: Portfolio & Job Readiness (80 hours)

Three pricing tiers:

Why the full bootcamp? Versatility (red team AND blue team), competitive edge with a recognised certificate, flexibility (24-month window, FT/PT/online/hybrid), five certifications instead of three, and Module 6 includes job placement support backed by Compuways.

What makes this different from YouTube?

Live instructors, not pre-recorded videos. Self-directed cybersecurity learning has a 70% dropout rate. You get live classes with hands-on labs, peer collaboration, and weekly accountability checks.

Real portfolio work, not homework. Pen Tester Track: write actual penetration tests on realistic targets. SOC Analyst Track: build incident response playbooks employers ask about. GRC & Cloud Track: complete real cloud security audits.

Certification exam preparation included. Your tuition covers exam-aligned training, mock exams, and study materials. You're fully prepared before sitting the official exam. (Professional and Elite tiers include exam vouchers.)

Backed by Compuways—training that leads to hiring. Code College is backed by Compuways, an IT recruitment firm founded in 1990. Your curriculum is shaped by what cybersecurity employers actually interview for. After graduation, Compuways connects suitable graduates with open roles across banking, finance, and consulting.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need IT experience?

No. Module 1 starts from absolute zero—networking fundamentals, Linux basics, lab setup. If you have an IT background, you can enter at Module 2 after a short placement assessment.

Which certifications will I earn?

Across the bootcamp you'll be prepared for: ISC² Certified in Cybersecurity (CC), CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+ (SY0-701), EC-Council CEH v13, CompTIA CySA+ (CS0-003), and CompTIA PenTest+ or Cloud+.

How long does each track take?

Full-time: Each specialist track (3 modules) takes approximately 3 months. Part-time: Approximately 6 months. All sessions are recorded for catch-up.

Are exam fees included?

Exam fees are not included in Standard tier. Your tuition covers all training materials, labs, and mock exams. Exam vouchers are included in Professional and Elite tiers.

Is training online or in-person?

All modules are available fully online. In-person sessions are available at our Johannesburg campus. Hybrid attendance is fully supported.

Can I study part-time while working?

Yes. Every module has a part-time option that roughly doubles the duration. A specialist track part-time takes approximately 6 months.

What equipment do I need?

A PC or laptop (minimum i5, 16 GB RAM recommended), stable internet connection, and webcam with microphone. All software (Kali Linux, Metasploit, Splunk, Wireshark) is provided. No additional hardware purchases required.
