First Real Code, First Real Robot

Explorer Coders is where kids write their first real programs. They learn Python fundamentals, build their first website with HTML & CSS, and step into physical computing — controlling motors and sensors with the BBC micro:bit. By the end, they'll have a personal website and a working Python app to show off. Based in Johannesburg, we teach live online to families across South Africa — including Cape Town, Durban, Bloemfontein and the Eastern Cape.

Robotics & Hardware Included

Explorer Coders is one of two levels (with Pioneer Coders) that includes hands-on robotics — programming the BBC micro:bit to control motors and respond to sensors. Code that moves, blinks, and reacts to the real world.

Build Your Own 40-Hour Year

Explorer Coders spans four years — ages 10, 11, 12 and 13. Each year of 40 hours earns an annual certificate, and the full pathway adds up to 160 hours. Alongside the core curriculum, learners will be able to fill extra hours from a growing library of book-based project modules — so there's always more to choose from than the minimum.

A note on module availability: we can only run a module once enough learners are interested in it at the same time. If a specific module doesn't have enough demand to form a class — for example, a Raspberry Pi group with too few students while an Arduino cohort is already running — we may suggest joining the active group instead, so learners aren't left waiting alone for a class to fill.

Explorer Coders Bootcamp Certificate

Complete all 4 years (ages 10–13) — each covering a minimum of 40 hours from the core curriculum and Module Library — and finish with a capstone: a personal website and a working Python app of your own design. Graduates earn the Explorer Coders Bootcamp Certificate and move on to Pioneer Coders Bootcamp.

No — Explorer Coders introduces Python gradually through real projects like a calculator, quiz app and weather app, building on the logic skills learners bring from Jungle Coders.

Do you run online coding classes outside Johannesburg?

Yes — all Explorer Coders classes are live online, so we teach students across South Africa, including Cape Town, Durban, Bloemfontein and the Eastern Cape.
